Bondage is the tying, binding, or restraining of a person for the sexual, aesthetic, and/or psychological pleasure of the parties involved.
Bondage features prominently in BDSM scenes and sexual roleplay. Bondage has a sexual appeal to people of both sexes and all sexual orientations, in either a dominant (top) or submissive (bottom) role.
Broadly speaking, bondage is any kind of physical restraint that restricts or controls someone’s movement.
For many, the arousal in bondage comes from the fantasy or act of being physically restrained or tied up. This is usually, but not necessarily, linked to submissive behaviour. For many people the bondage is a physical manifestion of a desire to give up control to another. The bondage can act as a permanent reminder to the bound person that they no longer control what is happening to them.
The sensations of being bound can also be arousing in their own right as it can stress the body and give the bound person something to struggle against. Bondage can also cause pressure on parts of the body which can be pleasurable (for example mummification).
Nawajutsu is the traditional Japanese martial art of restraining a person using cord or rope. Japanese bondage originates from hojojitsu, medieval military restraint techniques. The samurai, who generally showed great respect for their captives, were peerless in their ability to tie enemies up safely and securely.
Bondage as a sexual activity first came to notice in Japan in the late Edo period.

Some other rules to consider :
•Never be disrespectful to your Mistress or others, always treat all with courtesy, though respect is earned courtesy . This does not mean Don't question. Only to phrase the question in a respectful manner.
•Never allow yourself to be hit with whip or crop on the tailbone, lower back, head or neck. Never allow yourself to be struck in any way on head, neck, ovaries or kidneys.
•Do not allow permanent injury, scaring, cutting And burning. while in some relationships a consensual act, these practices are In my opinion not wise and best left to Long term committed relationships. Being permanent markings they are not to be taken lightly.
•Submission does not mean you can be passed around as as a sexual favor between Dommes, though to some this to is a consensual act. Always stress " permissions" so as to avoid any misunderstanding when playing with others.
•Respect, and ask Respect, of the use of a safe word like "RED" to stop unwanted activity. The safe word should always be an 'out of place' word . Some in time may come to a point a safe word is not used, but it is best to have one , it is an indispensable safety net when entering new territory.
•Always respect the female Domme.... always address her as Princess, Mistress, Ma'am or Goddess. show courtesy to all, no matter their sexual preference, or style. Remember the best way to earn respect, is show respect.
•Never allow nipple clamps to be left on for more than 15 minutes. Allow blood to circulate. If this is to be addressed, respectfully ask for them to be removed.
•Always ask for "Mercy" or use a preset "safeword" if suspended and limbs become cold or numb. Never allow yourself to be left alone in suspension. A tingle means your losing circulation.
•Always ask permission to release (orgasm). To most this is a basic rule in power exchange. And always to thank your Dominant afterwards for allowing that pleasure.
•Always negotiate a New scene. Even in an "Old" relationship. If something is not right, always ask to talk about it , call a safe word. Some use the terms "red", "yellow" , "Green." Red meaning stop completely, yellow to stop the activity and talk about it , Green to start again or go further.
These are only my considerations, not everyone is the same. Whatever rules or guidelines, and or negotiations you and your Dominant have decided upon, just remember : SAFE, SANE and CONSENSUAL for both involved.
